Supervision

This session has been designed to support managers whom are reviewing their current policy, to ensure that it meets with the needs of the service and the staff. This session will specifically show the critical role of the supervision in ensuring high quality services and enable and support staff to improve the quality of their practice. The session will identify the core elements of a supervision policy and the practise guidance, using a template that managers can use within their service and to improve staff supervision so that it can be seen as a whole management process and it will show how the principles can be applied in a slightly different way in appraisals and probation reviews.

Participants to achieve the following outcomes;

• Understand the purposes of supervision

• Understand supervision as a component of performance management

• Identify appropriate supervision models

• Understand the importance of supervision contracts and records

• Understanding of the supervision process including managing the reluctant supervisee

• Review their current supervision policy and identify issues arising from current statements • Understand the main four functions of supervision and its intended outcomes

• Review the key elements of a supervision policy and their current statement using policy template

• Identify actions necessary to translate policy into practice to apply good practice guideline

Employment Law Update

This session will provide an understanding of basic employment legislation which affects organisational policies and procedures including the impact of non-compliance of such legislation which can have on an organisation.

• Discuss Employment Rights Act and evaluate what it means for the organisation

• Review and discuss latest employment law updates

• Review any relevant codes of practices

 Effective Delegation

This session is to enable participants to understand the purpose of delegation, identify its principles and opportunities for establishing good practice guidelines for effective and efficient delegation.

Participants to achieve the following outcomes;

• Appreciate the value of delegation as a staff development activity

• Be more readily to identify opportunities for delegating activities

Care Setting Fire Risk Assessment

This session is to provide managers whom have legal responsibilities for undertaking fire risk assessments, with a basic working knowledge of the process to enable them to manage and develop this area within their workplace in order to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation.

Participants to achieve the following outcomes;

• Understand the legal duties relevant to fire safety and assessment

• Understand the principles and practical steps needed to undertake basic fire risk assessment and record

• Be able to apply practical knowledge to own workplace as a formal risk assessment process

• Identify appropriate control measures to reduce and minimise risks from fire

Continuing Professional Development for Managers

As required by regulatory bodies all managers are required to undertake Continuing Professional Development which will ensure a continuous process of personal and professional growth. Throughout this session participants will identify and develop knowledge, skills and experience and provide practical support on the construction of own records.

Participants to achieve the following outcomes;

• Identify sources of evidence for CPD

• Fully understand the requirements for CPD

• Recognise CPD as an opportunity for management and control of own development

• Begin to put individual  CPD folder together

• Be able to set and achieve personal targets to achieve CPD.

This session is designed to provide participants with information on CPD and initial activities, identifying sources of evidence related to roles and responsibilities, the evidence to be collected.
